There is a new-ish trend on the internet where people have decided that almost anything can be chic. Not just the obvious things.
Not a little black dress.
Not a designer handbag.
Not drinking an espresso in a tiny European inspired café while wearing sunglasses you absolutely cannot afford.
No.
Apparently, it is now kinda chic to repeat outfits.
To eat dinner alone.
To be in your 50s.
To have hobbies.
To do things that scare you.
To simply… enjoy your own life. And, mina I am here for it. Am I also late to this trend? Yes.
But that’s kinda chic too 🤣
So, in the spirit of arriving late but arriving with words, here are a few things I’ve decided are kinda chic.
Kinda chic to be in your thirties and still figuring things out.
Because apparently we were supposed to have everything sorted by now.
Career? Sorted.
Finances? Sorted.
Love? Sorted.
Body? Behaving.
Children? Thriving.
Skin? Glowing.
House? Smelling like vanilla and cinnamon.
Life? Organised into aesthetically pleasing little baskets.
Meanwhile, some of us are still ChatGPTing things we thought we’d know by now.
And that’s okay.
I think there’s something quite beautiful about getting older and realising that you don’t actually have to have the whole thing figured out.
You just have to keep going.
Kinda chic to change your mind.
About people.
About careers.
About clothes.
About friendships.
About what you want.
About what you thought you wanted.
There is something incredibly freeing about saying, “Actually… no, this no longer works for me.”
And moving accordingly.
Very chic.
Kinda chic to romanticise the small things.
A clean house.
Fresh sheets.
A really good shower.
Finding money in a handbag.
Getting somewhere five minutes early.
The first sip of tea in the morning.
Adulthood is mostly discovering that the little things are doing a lot of heavy lifting.
Kinda chic to be a mother and still be a whole person.
I love being a mother.
But I also like books.
I like travelling.
I like going out.
I like having thoughts that have absolutely nothing to do with school runs, meals or somebody asking me to buy them a monster truck.
Motherhood is a huge part of who I am.
But it isn’t the only part.
And I think it’s kinda chic to remember that women don’t stop being women when they become mothers.
We still get to have dreams.
We still get to be silly.
We still get to reinvent ourselves.
We still get to want things.
Kinda chic to go for a run and then behave like you have completed an Olympic event.
Lalela. If I put on running shoes, leave the house and voluntarily run several kilometres, I deserve recognition.
Was it a world record? No.
Did I train for it? Debatable.
Did I tell somebody about it? Absolutely!
Will I mention it again? Probably.
Kinda chic.
Kinda chic to keep creating even when nobody is watching.
This one is probably the most personal.
Starting something when you don’t have an audience is humbling.
Posting when there are no likes.
Writing when you don’t know who is reading.
Creating when nobody is waiting for the next thing.
But maybe that’s actually the point.
You don’t always need an audience before you start.
Sometimes you just need to enjoy making the thing.
And if someone finds it along the way? Even better.
Kinda chic to still be curious.
To read the book.
Take the trip.
Learn something new.
Ask questions.
Change your opinion.
Try something you’ve never tried before.
Be the person who says, “I’ve never done that. Let’s see.”
I don’t want to become so comfortable that I stop being curious about my own life.
Kinda chic to choose joy without needing to justify it.
This might be my favourite one.
Not everything has to be productive.
Not everything needs to become a side hustle.
Not every hobby needs to make money.
Not every trip needs to be “content.”
Sometimes you can simply enjoy something because you enjoy it.
Imagine that.
Kinda chic to show up for your own life.
Not perfectly.
Not every day.
Not with your hair done and your finances in order and a five-year plan printed on nice paper.
Just… show up.
For the good days.
For the weird days.
For the days when you feel like you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing.
For the little victories nobody else knows about.
For the version of yourself you’re still becoming.
Maybe that’s what I like about this whole #kindachic thing, as late as I am to the trend.
Love & light 🧡
